Day 12...

Day 12…                                                                                 Saturday 15th October, 2011

Today, another weekend… so much planned and ready to go… BAM, cancelled because of the rain and flooding. We had plans to go rice picking this morning and the floating village this afternoon but neither of them are happening because of the water.  We are sooooo bored… sitting in our hotel room getting on each others nerves. We braved it and went out this morning, dropped our washing off to get cleaned, bought some more water to drink, went and had lunch at a new place today which I enjoyed but the other girls did not… then… what else do you do…? Go shopping. None of us were keen to be spending any more money because we are going to the Capital City for 2 days next weekend and we have anticipated some serious shopping to occur there. But we did… not much though!

Also, walking through the market we got to the food section and came across these ladies who were skinning LIVE frogs. I was horrified, we were walking past and the frogs were in the process of being skinned and they were still hopping around. It was soooo horrific AND they just had fish sitting on the floor running out of air, slowly suffocating L… we quickly moved away in hope not to think about it again.

After sitting in our room for a few hours, bored… we decided it would be a good idea to get out and go for some snack type dinner and a few drinks. I wasn’t really feeling like getting drunk but we went to ‘Pub Street’ which is the street in Cambodia where all the main bars are, restaurants and nightclubs. We decided to go to every bar and try their cocktails, one cocktail and move on to the next one… This proved to be an excellent idea, cannot remember how much money was spent but the cocktails ranged from $4.50 - $1.50… all we ate was a snack food from any bar that looked good e.g. chicken baguette, spring rolls, brushetta… Probably not the best thing to do but anyways… what can you do!

We started at the Banana Leaf - $4.50 cocktails, 8th Street Bar and Grill - $3.50 cocktails, Pub Street Food House - $1.50 cocktails (we also came back here later in the night), World Lounge Restaurant - $2.00 (This restaurant made me feel like a pimp, the chairs were black and white leopard print…nice), Red Piano - $2.50 and finally Molly Malones for and Absenthe shot.

Ericka and I drank waaaaayyyy to much, and I feel like Karina definitely was not having as much fun as me and Ericka! It was about 9pm and we were quite drunk. Walking around looking for some sort of club… stubbled across a dodgy one called the X-Bar which we thought was going to be a strip club… turns out it wasn’t… It had a pool table and a DJ smoking Marijuana… so we played 3 games of pool and then moved on… Trying to find another club, a gay club (wondering if Cambodians are accepted as being gay… whether there are gay Cambodians)… Could not find a gay club… there are some but we could not find them. Tracking through the flood waters at 11pm at night we decided to call it a night… Headed home to the hotel, ready for another day tomorrow… Hopefully not tooooo seedy.

We have no idea what we are going to do tomorrow if we can’t do anything again because of the rain… wish us luck…

Till tomorrow J
